In-School Programming
Joffrey Community Engagement offers exceptional arts education for Chicago schools through in-school and after-school programming.
Joffrey provides instruction in multiple styles of dance including ballet, hip hop, jazz, Latin, modern/contemporary, musical theater, and more. The programs provide highly structured dance experiences in which students will develop techniques, creativity, and life skills. Programs last the full school year, though shorter residencies are available.
Joffrey Bridge Program
Designed for Grades K–2
The Joffrey Bridge Program meets twice per week for 30 weeks. Students creatively explore movement possibilities, with introductions to classical ballet exercises and basic ballet vocabulary. Program focus: technique and discipline.
Dance Explorations
Designed for Grades 3–5 & 6-8
Dance Explorations meets twice per week for 30 weeks. Students learn the origins of Latin, Jazz, and Hip-Hop dance styles, while also exploring and understanding culture through dance. Program focus: culture and movement.
Middle School Dance Clubs (MSDC)
Designed for Grades 3-5 & 6-9
Middle School Dance Clubs meets once per week for 30 weeks. Inspired by an annual theme, students create their own dances and have the opportunity to perform for other schools at the program’s two major field trips. Program focus: teamwork and self-expression.
Custom Residency
Designed for Grades K–12
Residency programs are customized and cater to the unique needs of each school. A program can be designed to improve student comprehension of school curriculum through the discipline of dance.
Nutcracker Student Matinee
Students from Chicago Public Schools attend a matinee performance of Act I of the Joffrey's annual production of The Nutcracker. Community Engagement provides a Nutcracker classroom curriculum to prepare students attending the show.
