Auditions
2025 International Audition Tour
The Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet's 2025 International Audition Tour will occur from Saturday, January 4, 2025, to Sunday, February 2, 2025. Students interested in attending any of the Academy's auditioned programs may audition in person at one of our national or international locations. Auditions are open to ages 7-22, with each audition location hosting a different age range. Students should audition according to their age on the date of the audition, not the age they will be during the time of the summer program. In-person auditions are highly recommended. Students unable to attend the Audition Tour in person may submit a video audition. Audition Tour locations and additional information can be found below.

In-Person Auditions
Audition Registration for the 2025 International Audition Tour opens on December 1, 2024. Online registration is required for participation and can occur up to the audition starting. Online registration prior to the day of the audition is highly encouraged.
A $50 registration fee is required to submit your registration application. The Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet does not offer refunds for the registration of its Audition Tour.
*Please note for our L.A. auditions—The USC Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center requires each participant to submit a waiver and agreement form in order to participate in any event in their facilities. Please fill this out prior to your audition.
Option 1:
- Black camisole leotard, flesh-tone or pink tights, flesh-tone or pink ballet slippers. Tights and slipper colors must match.
- Students who are already working on pointe must bring their pointe shoes in addition to their ballet slippers.
- Students who wish to be considered for the Contemporary Ballet Trainee Program should bring socks.
- Hair neatly pulled back in a bun or ballet hairstyle.
- No large jewelry, accessories, or smart watches.
Option 2:
- White fitted t-shirt, black tights with black ballet slippers, or gray tights with white socks and white ballet slippers.
- Students who wish to be considered for the Contemporary Ballet Trainee Program should bring socks.
- Hair neatly slicked or pulled back in a ballet hairstyle.
- No large jewelry, accessories, or smart watches.
No additional audition materials are needed outside of the online audition registration. Students may bring a water bottle into the studio with them for their audition.
Students will be accepted and placed into programs based on their audition and solely at the discretion of the artistic staff. All students who auditioned in person can expect to receive their results within two weeks of their audition. All results are final and scholarships are merit-based. Due to the high volume of auditions, artistic staff will not be able to supply individualized feedback. Results will not be sent earlier upon request. Acceptance to a program does not guarantee a place in the program. Only registration into the program can guarantee your spot. Registration information will be provided in acceptance letters.
Students may receive either a scholarship or financial aid but will not be awarded both in the same semester/session. Scholarship and financial aid awards are only applicable to the programs they are assigned to. Students who have any type of need for financial assistance are encouraged to apply for financial aid.
Financial Aid
A limited amount of need-based financial aid is available for students whose financial circumstances would limit their exposure to classical ballet and other dance forms. Anyone interested in being considered for financial aid must submit a complete application during the application window. Financial aid only applies to tuition. It does not apply to the registration fee, housing, attire, visas, or any other fees related to the program. The financial aid application for our Summer Intensives and Professional Training Programs is now open. This application will close on February 2, 2025. Financial Aid results will be shared in a separate letter by February 21. If you have not heard by February 22, please reach out to [email protected]. The financial aid application for our Pre-Professional Program is not yet open. More information regarding financial aid for our Pre-Professional Program will be shared with those who have been accepted on a later date.
Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available each year to students in auditioned programs who have demonstrated extraordinary professional potential. Scholarships are merit-based and awarded at the discretion of the artistic staff. Scholarships only apply to tuition. They do not apply to the registration fee, housing, attire, visas, or any other fees related to the program. If a student is awarded a scholarship, they will be notified in their acceptance letter.
Video Auditions
Video Auditions will open on Saturday, January 4, 2025, and be accepted up until our deadline of February 2, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted. Check below for all details concerning submitting a Video Audition.
Audition videos must be no longer than 15 minutes in length and must be one video link. The prospective student should be easily identifiable in the video. Videos should be as recent as possible and should include the following:
- Barre exercises (one side only)
- Center: Adage, Pirouette, Petite Allégro, and Grande Allégro
Additionally:
Students auditioning for Studio Company or the Ballet Trainee Program must include a classical variation from classical repertoire on pointe and a contemporary solo or improvisation.
Students auditioning for the Contemporary Ballet Trainee Program must include pointe work, a contemporary solo, and improvisation.
Students auditioning for Summer Intensives may include one variation if desired.
Students ages 7–8 are only required to demonstrate combinations done in their regular ballet classes.

Video Auditions can be submitted through the online registration portal, Danceapply, which can be found by clicking here. The Video Audition option can be found at the bottom of the list of audition locations once the registration has been started.
Video Auditions will remain open until February 2, 2025, after which they will close with the conclusion of our 2025 International Audition Tour. Late submissions will not be accepted. Emailed and mailed submissions will not be considered.
