Company Artist with the Joffrey since 2019; alum of the Joffrey Academy of Dance
Biography
José Pablo (JP), born in Querétaro, Mexico, began dancing at the age of six. He competed at YAGP Mexico in 2013 and 2015, earning scholarships to prestigious programs, including the Joffrey Academy of Dance. At 14, he moved to Chicago to train in Joffrey’s Pre-Professional and Conservatory programs before joining the Studio Company. During his academy years, he performed with the main company, including in the world premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s The Nutcracker. As a Studio Company member, he danced lead roles in Coppélia and Viva Vivaldi.
Since joining the Joffrey Ballet at age 17, some of JP’s favorite featured roles have included Victor Frankenstein in Liam Scarlett’s Frankenstein, Peter in Christopher Wheeldon’s The Nutcracker, Vronsky in Yuri Possokhov’s Anna Karenina, Robbie in Cathy Marston’s Atonement, and most recently, Jack/Knave of Hearts in Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
