Biography
Hansol Jeong was born in the Republic of Korea and began studying ballet at age nine. He graduated from Korea National Ballet University of Arts Pre-School, Sunhwa Arts Middle School and High School and went on to study ballet on scholarship at Sejong University, graduating in 2015.
With the Joffrey, he has performed Alexander Ekman’s Joy and Midsummer Night Dream; Yuri Possokhov’s The Miraculous Mandarin and Anna Karenina; Christopher Wheeldon’s Swan Lake and The Nutcracker (Chinese, Teenage Boy); John Neumeier’s Sylvia and Orphee et Eurydice with Lyric Opera; Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Mammatus; Jiri Kylian’s Forgotten Land; Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella (Jester); Krzysztof Pastor’s Romeo & Juliet; Wayne McGregor’s INFRA; Justin Peck’s Year of the Rabbit; Lola de Avila’s Giselle (Peasant pas); Jerome Robbins’s Glass Pieces; Liam Scarlett’s Vespertine; and Andrea Walker’s HOME. He was also a Soloist and Principal dancer at the Korean Ballet Theatre where he performed The Flower Festival in Genzano Grand pas de deux, Grand pas Classique Grand pas de deux, Don Quixote Grand pas de deux, Harlequinade Grand pas de deux, C ha Yeong Seo’s Mongyudowondo (Soloist), and Moon Byung Nam’s Don Quixote with the Korea National Ballet as a guest Soloist In 2014.
Jeong went to many ballet competitions for his military service exemption and he received many awards. He got Junior Male 1st prize at the Russia Novosibirsk Siberian International Ballet Competition (IBC) 2008, Junior Male 1st prize at the 6th Seoul International Dance Competition, Junior Male Bronze Medal at the 2th Korea IBC 2009, Senior Male Gold Medal at the 5th Korea IBC 2012, Senior Male Finalist at the Moscow IBC 2013, and Senior Male Gold Medal at the USA IBC in Jackson, Mississippi 2014. He was the first Korean to be honored with this title and it was this opportunity that brought him to the Joffrey.
