Stream the Joffrey’s 2022 Winning Works Program
Watch all four of this year’s world premiere performances from the comfort of home
Robert Joffrey believed that dance was for everyone. Indeed, the Joffrey is devoted to the principles of its founder.
This year, as part of the organization’s commitment to reaching audiences everywhere, the Joffrey streams all four world premiere performances from this year’s Winning Works program in a series of two streaming dates: Series 1 begins on Thursday, March 25, with the launch of Now Now, But Now, a world premiere from Taylor Carrasco, and Friday, March 26, with the streaming premiere of Porcelain by choreographer Audrey Baran. Series 2 begins on Thursday, March 31 with the virtual debut of Road to Flames by choreographer Derick McKoy, Jr., and Friday, April 1 with the presentation of On the Same Boat by choreographer Edson Barbosa. Streaming performances will be available for viewing on the Joffrey’s YouTube channel.
This year’s Winning Works program featuring the Joffrey Studio Company and Academy Trainees was performend in front of sold out houses at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s Edlis Neeson Theater, March 18–20. WTTW Chicago described the 2022 program as “a true winner,” and a “primary example of the Joffrey’s commitment to the ‘new.’“ This year’s choreographers were chosen from a diverse pool of applicants and received stipends to create original works of choreography on the Joffrey Studio Company and Joffrey Academy Trainees. For two weeks a piece, each choreographer and the dancers worked at the studios of Joffrey Tower to bring their original works to life for the MCA stage and the Joffrey’s digital presentation.
Streaming performances of Winning Works 2022 were filmed on location at the Joffrey’s Gerald Arpino Black Box Theater at Joffrey Tower. In 2020, the Joffrey unveiled the Joffrey Studio Series, a catalog of original creations, livestreams, and digital content curated by the Joffrey Artistic team. The Joffrey’s 2021 Winning Works presentation was the first of its kind to stream digitally to a home audience.
