Inside the Studio | 'Princess and the Pea' with Choreographer Dani Rowe
Dani Rowe, a former dancer with Australian Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Nederlands Dans Theatre, and current choreographer and Artistic Director of Oregon Ballet Theatre, created a reimagined Princess and the Pea, a co-production between The Joffrey Ballet and Oregon Ballet Theatre.
Written with Garen Scribner, Dani created a mythical world called Peatown, where everything is green, and people are only allowed to eat peas. Reigned by Princess, a dictator whose title she gave herself, there is little hope of a better future for the pea farmers, until the annual mattress match, when commoners can compete against Princess for the key to the city.
With sets and costumes by Emma Kingsbury and music by Jim Stephenson, the ballet transports audiences into a whimsical world that entertains and highlights the importance of variety and acceptance.
