The health and safety of the Joffrey community is our highest priority. The purpose of this section is to ensure that the Joffrey provides the safest environment possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.  These guidelines apply to everyone who enters a Joffrey facility, and specific guidelines are outlined for specific groups and specific locations as necessary. Joffrey facilities include Joffrey Tower (10 E. Randolph St.), 1920 S. Wabash Ave., Joffrey Warehouse (4031 S. Racine), and Lyric Opera House (20 N. Wacker Dr.). Other facilities may become temporary Joffrey facilities as needed. This plan will be updated as conditions require.

Anyone entering Joffrey facilities is required to abide by this Safety Plan.

Before the Audition

Before leaving home each day, everyone is expected to evaluate their own well-being to avoid inadvertently exposing others to ill health. If you do not feel well do not enter a Joffrey facility, and if necessary, contact your health care provider. The following are some common symptoms which indicate potential illness:

  • Body temperature over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Persistent cough, headache, shortness of breath, or sort throat
  • Complete loss of smell or taste

All Nutcracker Children’s Cast Auditionees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one booster shot.

At the Audition

All auditionees must wear a mask over their nose and mouth while in Joffrey facilities during Nutcracker Children’s Cast Auditions.

  • Water fountains and water filling stations are only to be used to fill water bottles. Reminder signage is posted at the fountains.
  • Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building and its use encouraged prior to and after any actions requiring the use of hands.
  • Proper hand washing with soap and water should be exercised whenever possible. Reminder signage is posted in restrooms and lounges.
  • Nutcracker Children’s Cast auditionees must keep personal belongings with them in their designated area.

Entering and Leaving the Joffrey

  • Guardians of auditionees 10 years of age and older are not permitted inside of Joffrey Tower during Nutcracker Children’s Cast Auditions.
  • Guardians of auditionees under 10 years old may escort their child to a studio, after which point guardians must leave the building, and return to pick their child up after they have been released from their audition.

Anyone who develops symptoms or otherwise falls ill after entering a Joffrey facility should immediately return home and contact a health care provider if necessary.

Testing for COVID-19 during a period of illness, or suspected exposure, is strongly encouraged.  Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19, symptomatic or not, should follow CDC isolation or quarantine guidelines as appropriate for their situation.

Studios (Joffrey Tower and 1920 S. Wabash)

Each studio is equipped with a sanitation station and a disinfection station.

  • Everyone in the studio is encouraged to freely use the sanitation station for their hands throughout their time in the studio.
  • Using the disinfection station, students/dancers should wipe down their barre prior to use, and then again after use.
  • Using the disinfection station, pianists should wipe down the piano keys before and after use.
