Jocelyn Garner

Jocelyn Garner, began her dance training and studies in Northbrook, IL.  She has since performed, choreographed and taught dance in wonderful cities such as Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, London, Paris, Strasbourg and Sydney.  She is classically trained in the Cecchetti Method with a Certificate in Dance Education through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.  She is a certified member of the Cecchetti Council of America and is the Scholarship Chair for the Midwest Cecchetti Council. She earned her Ph.D. at Laban/City University, London, focusing on the influence of somatic practice on motor learning, motor control, and creativity in dance. She completed her B.A. in Performing Arts, with a dance concentration, and American Literature in Colorado, and her M.A. in Dance Studies at Laban. She is a certified teacher of the Feldenkrais Method and holds a BASI Pilates teacher certification. 

Her dance teaching credits include being a full-time member of the Faculty of Education at the Royal Academy of Dance, her role being central to ballet training and dance science studies; Lecturer at Northwestern University, teaching ballet, experiential anatomy, movement awareness, and mentoring research; Roosevelt University, teaching ballet to musical theatre and acting students; as well as teaching in private studios and workshops.She is a private Pilates instructor and an active dance science researcher, presenting work with the International Association of Dance Science and Medicine. She is honored to be a member of the Joffrey Academy team since 2008.
