Amber Neumann joined The Joffrey Ballet in 2009.


Originally from Niles, Michigan, Ms. Neumann received her dance training at Southold Dance Theater in South Bend, Indiana, and from the Joffrey Academy in Chicago. She was the first Joffrey dancer to come out of the prestigious Chicago school. In 2009, she received the Grand Prix award at the Chicago regional Youth America Grand Prix and was the top female medalist at the NY International Ballet Competition later that same year.


Ms. Neumann has performed many ballets during her time with the Joffrey, including lead roles in Yuri Possokhov’s Don Quixote (Kitri), Wayne McGregor’s Infra, and Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker (Sugar Plum Fairy). She was in the original cast of Possokhov’s Bells, James Kudelka’s Pretty BALLET, Stanton Welch’s Son of Chamber Symphony, and Val Caniparoli’s Incantations. Other significant roles include Partisan Woman in Kurt Jooss’ The Green Table, Bianca in Lar Lubovitch’s Othello, Pas de Trois in Christopher Wheeldon’s Swan Lake, and Autumn Fairy in Sir Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella.


She has also performed William Forsythe’s In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated; Jiří Kylián’s Forgotten Land; Krzysztof Pastor’s Romeo & Juliet; Welch’s La Bayadère and Maninyas; Alexander Ekman’s Episode 31 and Tulle; Julia Adams’ Night; Kudelka’s The Man In Black; Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs; Edwaard Liang’s Age of Innocence; Jerome Robbins’ Interplay and The Concert; George Balanchine’s Tarantella; and Gerald Arpino’s Confetti and Reflections.

  

In addition to dancing, Ms. Neumann has also designed and created costumes for Atlanta Ballet and The Joffrey Ballet’s outreach program.
