An Important Message Regarding the Covid-19 Virus

An Important Update from Joffrey Leadership on the COVID-19 Outbreak

Friends of the Joffrey,

The Joffrey has been closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19 here in Chicago and abroad. As our daily lives and routines pause, we want to take a moment and provide an update.

First, we thank Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for their steady leadership during these uncertain times. They continue to put safety first. We also recognize and thank all essential workers and first responders. They are the heroes of the moment, putting themselves at risk for the good of their communities. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

We assure you that while our doors remain closed our resolve is as strong as ever. Our company artists are keeping up with modified classes while staying engaged; the Joffrey Academy and our Community Engagement teams have established a daily teaching schedule of virtual and online courses for our students; and our dedicated staff is working around the clock in preparation for our eventual return. We remain dedicated to our mission and will continue to spread joy through the power of dance.

As a matter of absolute safety, Joffrey Tower remains closed until further notice. All Academy in-person summer programming has been cancelled and replaced with virtual programming, and Community Engagement will be offering a hybrid of pre-recorded and virtual programming. Performances of Don Quixote, Manon, and The Nutcracker have been cancelled. We encourage you to check our website frequently for updates.

The Joffrey's message has always been one of hope. Nowhere is hope more evident than the arts. Rest assured, we will do our part to keep the world connected. Follow us on social media for virtual classes, special commentary on past performances, and more. This is our chance to share more of what we do and love with all of you.

Normal life will resume at some point. We will be ready when it does.
